Water Forum meeting notes #1 **************************** 26-July-2009 wf1-26jul09.txt 8pm Sand Dance Cafe, 12 attended, Environment Canterbury councillor report-back & constituent engagement: 1. Rain/Grey-water recycling at New Brighton Community Gardens - Com'ty Brd project, George; Liz's e.g. 2. "clean public water".. campaign logo/badge/slogan design needed - draft #1 circulated 3. Cleaner water everywhere, Estuary etc - Estuary Associations and resident groups engaged 4. Use badges and survey/petition etc for a bigger campaign - stall at New Brighton Market each month 5. Design, wallspace, artists - exhibit planned for Nov 2nd, Linwood Community Art Centre, etc 6. Science and intuitive water knowledge - training, long term association with East Christchurch 7. Widen campaign issues - Hurunui and Waimakariri river focii next; against domestic water charges, add plumbing skills or service; better & sustainable transport systems etc, to be discussed through more regular Sunday night meetings in future; regional sustainability, air & climate (see 350.org.nz etc) 8. ground DDT into food from new irrigation - more research is needed 9. Small farmers - support, in other districts too 10. Action points - mention meeting widely to Fish&Game, St Albans centre, Water Rights Trust etc A good time was had by all, with 3-minute speech rotations making for inclusive and democratic fun. The meeting decided to make the "Speaker's Night" a monthly fixture for @ SandDance Cafe. Everyone was looking forward to Sunday four weeks away.
