Water Forum series 3, meeting notes #15 *************************************** 20-February-2011 ~ wf15-20feb11.txt SUSTAINABLE CANTERBURY ~ Mauri Roa Waitaha The Save Our Water Forum on sustainable water use, of 20 February 2011 - held at the Workers' Educational Association, 59 Gloucester St in Christchurch - resolved to meet again after one month, and prior to the first public information meeting as Sustainable Canterbury. The latter had been scheduled for 22 March - World Water Day - 20 March the former. We had resolved to adopt the Sustainable Canterbury name last November - to extend the issue range we are addressing.* January's notes were posted @ http://forums.e-democracy.org/r/topic/2Q6P21QMcl63p1xPg4zdAw February's notes are written from receding memory, as the 22 February 2011 earthquake intervened dramatically in Christchurch routine normality. The 22 March public information meeting had to be postponed, and may be cancelled. The six people who attended on 20 February discussed preparations for the 22 March forum, which were still vague. The person proposing the 22 March forum did not attend on 20 February, and therefore could not contribute to developing the publicity work. For this reason alone, and there were others, review of the "big public meeting" plan is necessary. "As our group formalises, we will reach out to the related networks around us. Emphasis was placed upon the Canterbury Public Issues Forum - http://forums.e-democracy.org/groups/canterburyissues - Linked In (etc social networking) and Street Groups as key alternative media for the engagement of greater public sustainability debate (versus mainstream unsustainability). Please establish CPIF etc user accounts and communicate there often!" - December 2010 notes. On 20 February we looked again at how our networking capacity had developed - in the months since that focus had been proposed- and found that too little yet had changed in our wider online communication ability. This needs more work. * We resolved that a "Water Forum" title was too limiting for the wider campaigning task ahead, and are proposing that "Sustainable Canterbury" is a better name for the objectives of a WATER + CLIMATE + STV/MMP conservation campaign. The draft charter for Sustainable Canterbury is available @ http://www.infohelp.co.nz/docs/SustCantyDraft2b.pdf Those interested may also choose to join a new mailing list initiating Sustainable Canterbury organisation growth. NEXT MEETING: Sunday, 20 March 2011, 3-5pm at WEA Christchurch. All welcome.
